Board Chair/President

Role Overview

The Board Chair/President provides leadership to the Board of Directors and helps ensure that the Board fulfills its governance, oversight, and strategic responsibilities. The Chair works closely with the Founder & Executive Director to support A&Y Birthday Blessings' mission and long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and facilitate Board meetings.

• Help establish Board priorities and annual goals.

• Support effective Board governance and accountability.

• Partner with the Executive Director on organizational strategy.

• Help recruit, orient, and engage Board members.

• Encourage active participation and follow-through among Board members.

• Serve as an ambassador for A&Y Birthday Blessings within the community.

• Support fundraising, partnership development, and organizational growth.

Ideal Candidate

An effective communicator and collaborative leader who is organized, dependable, comfortable facilitating groups, and passionate about supporting children and families. Previous Board or nonprofit leadership experience is helpful but not required.

Time Commitment

Monthly Board meetings, preparation between meetings, and participation in periodic organizational, fundraising, or community activities.

Secretary & Governance

Role Overview

​

The Secretary supports strong organizational governance by maintaining accurate Board records, documentation, and communications. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable managing information and deadline.

Key Responsibilities

• Record and maintain accurate Board meeting minutes.

• Assist with meeting notices, agendas, and Board communications.

• Maintain official Board records and resolutions.

• Support compliance with bylaws, policies, and governance procedures.

• Track Board action items and important deadlines.

• Assist with onboarding and maintaining records for Board members.

• Maintain confidentiality of Board and organizational matters.

• Participate actively in Board discussions and decisions.

Ideal Candidate

Someone with strong organizational, administrative, writing, communication, or governance skills. Nonprofit or Board experience is helpful but not required.

Time Commitment

Monthly Board meetings with additional preparation and administrative responsibilities between meetings as needed.

Treasurer/Finance Oversight 

Role Overview

​

The Treasurer provides Board-level financial oversight and helps ensure that A&Y Birthday Blessings manages its resources responsibly, transparently, and in alignment with its mission.

​

Key Responsibilities

• Review financial reports and provide updates to the Board.

• Assist with development and review of the annual organizational budget.

• Monitor organizational income, expenses, and financial controls.

• Help ensure financial policies and procedures are followed.

• Support responsible financial planning and decision-making.

• Work with the Executive Director and financial professionals as appropriate.

• Help the Board understand the organization's financial position.

• Participate in discussions regarding financial sustainability.

Ideal Candidate

Someone with experience or knowledge in accounting, bookkeeping, budgeting, banking, finance, business, or financial management. Professional accounting experience is a plus but not required.

​

Note: The Treasurer provides Board-level oversight and is not necessarily responsible for performing all day-to-day bookkeeping.

Time Commitment

Monthly Board meetings and periodic review of financial information between meetings.

Fundraising & development

Role Overview

​

The Fundraising & Development Board Member helps A&Y Birthday Blessings develop sustainable financial support for its programs and mission through fundraising, sponsorships, donor relationships, and community connections.

​

Key Responsibilities

• Identify potential donors, sponsors, businesses, and funding opportunities.

• Support fundraising campaigns and initiatives.

• Help cultivate relationships with donors and community supporters.

• Assist with sponsorship outreach and development.

• Help identify grant and other funding opportunities.

• Leverage professional and community networks to open doors to potential supporters.

• Help communicate A&Y's mission and impact to prospective supporters.

• Participate in Board-led fundraising efforts.

Ideal Candidate

A relationship-builder who is comfortable making connections and asking for support. Experience in fundraising, development, sales, marketing, business development, nonprofit work, or community engagement is valuable.

Time Commitment

Monthly Board meetings plus participation in fundraising and development activities throughout the year.
